Poinsett Bridge was constructed in 1820 over Little Gap Creek (now Calahan Branch) in Greenville County near Travelers Rest, in the Upstate of South Carolina. A marker erected by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on the southern end of the Poinsett Bridge is engraved with this information: "This bridge on the state road from Greenville to Asheville was built in 1820 by Abram Blanding, acting commissioner, Board of Public Works, Joel R. Poinsett, President." Poinsett Bridge is listed in the National Historic Register.
