Glass Gem is disseminated by growers sharing seeds. This allows for the expansion of the regions where rare maize may be cultivated and increases the total seed pool available for future crops.
Seed Savers Exchange is a single example of a seed swap where gardeners contribute thousands of heirloom and open-pollinated seeds, those not commercially grown. Most of these seed swap operations handle rare or unique seeds, available free or for a small fee. Otherwise, seeds such as Glass Gem maize are shared amongst growers for a greater distribution of legacy and endangered resources.
