An Eastern Comma Polygonia comma rests on a grapevine leaf camouflaged by wing ventral side patterned to appear as leaves, bark, or other natural surroundings when closed. Note, the Eastern Comma butterfly is named for the white mark on the lower ventral wing – a punctuation mark – a comma.
