Red-winged Blackbird – St Marks National Wildlife Reserve Florida
Red-winged Blackbird Agelaius phoeniceus are strong, agile fliers found year-round in all 48 contiguous United States. They spend the breeding season taking off and landing in wet places like fresh or saltwater marshes and rice paddies. Despite a decline of 30% in population over the past 50 years, they remain one of the most abundant native birds on the continent.1
Following clean-up from Hurricane Michael, St Marks National Wildlife Refuge reopened to visitors Sunday, October 21.
