Today is Election Day 2012. My campaign photography assignments for this election began on August 13, 2011. That was 451 days ago. In the past 16 months, I have spent time with every serious candidate of both major parties in the race to the office for President of the United States (POTUS). If the polls are to be believed, the United States are a very deeply divided nation.<\/p>\n

Edith Childs | \u00a92012 David Allio for Corbis<\/p><\/div> As the days have passed and both major parties have entrenched, after all of the campaign speeches and rallies from small-town restaurants and school cafeterias to big-city arenas, the most memorable message did not come from Romney nor Obama. The most valuable lesson that I have learned in this campaign cycle is the importance of one voice. One voice can make a difference.<\/p>\n

President Barack Obama closed his campaign last night in Iowa with a story about city councilwoman Edith Childs and his first visit to Greenwood, South Carolina. At that point in the 2008 campaign, Obama was virtually unknown in a big field of potential candidates. It was Edith Childs that gave voice to the Obama campaign chant of: \u201cFired Up! Ready to Go!\u201d

\u201cIt shows you what one voice can do,\u201d Obama says. \u201cOne voice can change a room. And if a voice can change a room, it can change a city. And if it can change a city, it can change a state. And if it can change a state, it can change a nation. And if it can change a nation, it can change the world. Your voice can change the world. So I\u2019ve just got one question for you: Are you fired up and are you ready to go?\u201d<\/p>\n
