David Allio is an international award-winning photojournalist, visual artist, and Master of Fine Arts. His professional and personal photographic portfolio encompasses sports, editorial, fashion, glamour, fine art, portraiture, corporate, scientific research, electron microscopy, and historic documentation. His original art has appeared on album covers, postcards, posters, billboards, calendars, display advertising, and in movies, books, catalogs, magazines, and other periodicals. With a commercial client list highlighted by several former and current Fortune 100 companies, his extensive portfolio of published images contains a variety of celebrities, politicians, and sports figures.
Since 1978, David has been a featured instructor, keynote speaker, and lecturer at a variety of visual art workshops, seminars, and photography conventions. His photography instructional topics range from traditional darkroom techniques and elements of digital photojournalism to the changing role of photography in a post-modern world. Popular visual art topics include copyright and licensing, social media branding, phenomenology, and portfolio development. His audiences vary from high school students to senior citizens, beginners to career professional artists, artisans, and photographers.
With a professional career concentration in motorsports that spans five decades, David has created over one-half million original photographs. He is a multiple winner of American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) awards for motorsports photography. David is a former official NASCAR photographer. He worked for seventeen years as a contract corporate sports marketing photographer for the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company at various AMA, IHRA, IMSA, NASCAR, NHRA, and USHRA series racing events. Since the mid-1970s, he has served as the chief track photographer at eleven different race tracks. David is currently the chief track photographer and major event media manager at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Exhibited extensively in Europe, David’s original photographs and artworks have been showcased on four continents. In 2001, David and his photography were the exclusive subject of a 30-minute feature broadcast on PBS. The program entitled Impressions was produced by South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV).
David has been a contract photojournalist with the New York Times, New York Post, Los Angeles Times, Stephens Media, United Press International/UPI Photo, McClatchy, Gannett, and Reuters.
Born in the Commonwealth of Virginia, USA, David Allio is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Communications and Visual Arts. He has a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Art from the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
