Harvest Time – Aerial America Collection
My 87 year-old mother says it is harvest time for many of the fruits and vegetables of her Southwest Virginia garden. Berrys in the cages have come and gone, as have the sugar beets. This week she is working through the patchwork to pick tomatoes, cucumbers, and broccoli. Next week, she expects the first of her potatoes, beans, and corn to be ready.

Flat Gap Mountain – Aerial America Collection
West of Wise, Virginia, are the etched remains of Flat Gap Mountain. The stratigraphic sequence exposed in the area is approximately 4800 feet thick and ranges in age from Upper Mississippian to Middle Pennsylvanian. This sequence is mainly siltstone, sandstone, and coal, although a few beds of shale and limestone are present.1
